Terms of Sale — The Black Friday Society
DRAFT v1 · 16 Oct 2026 · NOT LEGAL ADVICE · NOT PUBLISHED. Written for Alan to review. Before anything goes live, a Greek accountant or lawyer must check this page, in particular: the withdrawal-waiver wording (§8), the OSS/VAT and Stripe Tax wording (§5), the UK exclusion (§3), the liability clause (§12), governing law (§14) and the dispute-resolution information (§15). Text in [PLACEHOLDER] still needs facts.

1. Who runs the shop
These terms apply to purchases from blackfridaysociety.com (the "Shop").
The seller is:
- Alan Stelios Michas, sole trader, trading as The Black Friday Society
- Registered with the Greek tax authority (AADE)
- Address: [PLACEHOLDER: business address, Greece]
- Tax number (AFM): [PLACEHOLDER]
- Email: [PLACEHOLDER: e.g. hello@blackfridaysociety.com]
- Phone: [PLACEHOLDER]
"We", "us" and "our" mean the seller. "You" means the person buying.
2. What's in the jar (the product)
We sell digital novelty certificates: personalised, numbered PDF certificates with a share image and an online verification page.
- A humorous novelty with no legal meaning. A certificate is a joke you can frame. It is not an official, legal, financial or government document, not proof of anything to any authority, and not an investment. It has no resale or cash value.
- "I Saved Something" savings figures are self-reported. You type the amount; we print it as your claim. We do not check receipts, prior prices or discounts, and the certificate does not confirm any saving.
- "I Bought Nothing" works on the honour system. We cannot check whether you bought anything, and we don't try.
3. Who can buy
You must be at least 18, or have permission from a parent or guardian, to buy.
At launch we sell worldwide except to buyers in the United Kingdom. We may refuse or cancel an order placed from the UK and will refund it in full. [PLACEHOLDER: lawyer/accountant to confirm the exclusion wording and how the UK is screened, e.g. billing country]
4. The sweet counter (products and prices)
| Product | What you get | Price (VAT included) |
|---|---|---|
| I Bought Nothing · Classic | Personalised numbered certificate | €5 |
| I Bought Nothing · Early Society | A guaranteed number from #0101–#1000, silver seal | €15 [PLACEHOLDER: confirm] |
| I Bought Nothing · Founders | A guaranteed number from #0001–#0100, gold seal | €49 [PLACEHOLDER: confirm] |
| I Bought Nothing · Gift | A certificate in someone else's name, delivered at a time you choose | €7 [PLACEHOLDER: confirm] |
| I Saved Something | Personalised numbered certificate stating the savings figure you enter | €5 on its own, or free with an I Bought Nothing certificate in the same order |
The price shown at checkout is the price you pay. There is no discount. It has always been €5.
We may change prices for future orders. A change never affects an order you have already paid for.
5. Price, VAT and payment
- Prices include VAT. VAT is charged at the rate of your country, calculated at checkout by Stripe Tax. For buyers in the EU, VAT is declared through the EU One-Stop Shop (OSS). The final amount, including VAT, is shown before you pay. [PLACEHOLDER: accountant to confirm wording, and whether prices are shown as the same total in every country or recalculated per country rate]
- Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe's own terms and privacy notice apply to the payment.
- Your contract with us is formed when payment succeeds and we confirm the order on screen and by email.
6. Delivery (straight from the oven)
- Your certificate is delivered immediately after payment: as a download on the confirmation page, and by email to the address you gave.
- Gifts are emailed to the recipient at the date and time you choose. Until then, the gift has not been delivered.
- If your email doesn't arrive within [PLACEHOLDER: e.g. 1 hour], check spam and then contact us (§16).
7. Pledge, Certified and numbering
- Before Black Friday (27 November 2026), I Bought Nothing certificates are issued as a Pledge ("I pledge to buy nothing on Black Friday").
- On 28 November 2026 (Buy Nothing Day), every Pledge is upgraded free to a Certified version with the same number. We email you the upgraded certificate. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm the time of the upgrade and the time zone]
- From Black Friday onwards you can buy the Certified version directly.
- Numbers are issued in order and are unique. A number is never reissued to anyone else, even after a refund or cancellation. Early Society and Founders numbers come from their reserved ranges until each range runs out.
8. Your right of withdrawal (the 14-day bit)
If you are a consumer in the EU, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason.
For digital content that is supplied immediately, this right ends once delivery begins, but only if:
- you gave your express prior consent to immediate delivery, and
- you acknowledged that you lose your right of withdrawal once delivery begins.
You do this by ticking a box at checkout. The box is not ticked in advance, and you cannot complete an immediate-delivery order without ticking it. We confirm your consent and acknowledgement in the order email.
The checkbox reads:
☐ I want my certificate delivered straight away. I understand that I lose my 14-day right of withdrawal once delivery begins.
Scheduled gifts: delivery has not begun until the gift is sent, so you can cancel for a full refund at any time before the scheduled delivery.
[PLACEHOLDER: lawyer to confirm this wording under Directive 2011/83/EU Art. 16(m), as amended, and Greek Law 2251/1994; and whether a model withdrawal form must be provided for cases where the right still applies (e.g. scheduled gifts)]
9. When something goes wrong (reissue first, then refund)
If a certificate never arrives, the file won't open, or it contains a mistake we made, contact us. We will first fix or reissue it (same number). If we can't do that within a reasonable time, we will refund you in full. You also keep your statutory rights for digital content that doesn't conform to the contract.
If you made a typo in a name or a savings figure, write to us and we'll reissue it once, free, with the same number. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm the free-correction limit]
Full details are in the Refund Policy.
10. Names and messages we won't print
You are responsible for the names, messages and savings figures you enter. We may refuse, edit (with your agreement) or cancel and refund an order if the text is offensive, unlawful, harassing, impersonates someone, or infringes someone else's rights. You can report a certificate from its verification page.
11. The Wall (optional)
Showing your certificate on the public Wall is optional and off by default. You can ask us to remove it at any time. See the Privacy Notice [PLACEHOLDER: link].
12. Liability (keeping it proportionate)
- The certificate is a novelty. We are not responsible if someone treats it as an official document or as proof of a saving.
- Apart from the cases below, our total liability for an order is limited to the price you paid for it.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited under the law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your statutory consumer rights (including your rights for digital content that doesn't conform to the contract).
[PLACEHOLDER: lawyer to confirm this clause is valid under Greek and EU consumer law]
13. Intellectual property
The certificate designs and site content belong to us. You may print, frame and share your own certificate for personal use. You may not resell it or copy the designs for commercial use.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by Greek law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer-law rules of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country as the law allows. [PLACEHOLDER: lawyer to confirm the jurisdiction wording]
15. Complaints and disputes
Please contact us first (§16). We aim to reply within [PLACEHOLDER: e.g. 3 business days].
Out-of-court dispute resolution: [PLACEHOLDER: lawyer to confirm the current requirements. The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform was discontinued in 2025; check which information is now required, e.g. the Hellenic Consumer Ombudsman or another certified ADR body, and whether we must state if we participate].
16. Contact
- Email: [PLACEHOLDER]
- Phone: [PLACEHOLDER]
- Address: [PLACEHOLDER]
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in force when you place your order applies to that order.
A humorous novelty with no legal meaning.
